THE EFFECT OF INQUIRY STRATEGY THROUGH INTERACTIVE MULTIMEDIA HANDOUT ON STUDENTS’ MOTIVATION AND LEARNING OUTCOMES

Abstract

Motivation is an important factor that influences student learning achievement. Low motivation of the students is a problem that often found in the learning activities. Therefore, an innovative learning process is required to solve these problems. The inquiry learning strategy combined with interactive multimedia handouts is one of the innovations that can be implemented. The aim of this study is to investigate whether the application of the interactive multimedia handout based on inquiry strategy affects students' motivation and learning outcomes. This study used experimental method with a pretest posttest design of non-equivalent control group. The subjects were 60 students who were divided into two groups consist of 30 students. The research was conducted at one of senior high schools in Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh, Indonesia in the even semester of Academic Year 2019/2020. The parameters of this study are motivation and cognitive learning outcomes of students. The data were analyzed through Covariance Analysis (ANCOVA) and correlation regression tests. The results showed the application of interactive multimedia handout based on inquiry strategy had an effect on the motivation and learning outcomes of students. There is a positive relationship between motivation and student learning outcomes.
