 Abstract

According to sociologists a society can be made sustainable only by making the education system strongly based upon the sociological and philosophical grounds. Types of learning would be formal or non-formal and the educational institutes would be public or private depends upon the needs of the individual, particular group, community or the nation on the whole. Society is responsible for educational transactions and the curricular development along with the provision of infrastructures for the successful and safe process. Various researches have shown the importance of parents involvement at the institutional level so the concept of, “School councils and parent teacher association” (PTA) is blooming up. This idea is prevailing in Pakistan also. In Pakistan, “School councils” are working in provinces and, “Parent Teacher Association” in the federal capital. The key objective of the study was to explore the extent to which PTA is playing its role to support the financial resources of the educational institutions in Islamabad Pakistan. This was a descriptive study and researcher used the survey method for data collection. The population of the study is comprised of all PTAs of all Islamabad model schools. 30 PTA presidents (elected) and 30 principals (non-elected members) were taken randomly as sample for data collection. Self-developed questionnaire was used for collecting the views about the involvement of PTA in the said scenario. Analysis of data was being done by using descriptive statistics. The collected data were analyzed by comparing the mean scores of responses from elected and non- elected members of the association. During analysis it was revealed that in maximum institutions the PTA is playing a positive role in supporting the financial resources of the institutions. The role is best played in the federal areas, where the community is the major stake holder of the process (teaching and learning). PTA has helped the institutions in providing the physical and academic facilities in the institutions on voluntary bases. It was concluded that Parent Teacher Association can play a more functional role in supporting the financial resources of the institutions if the elected members show the positive attitude toward the role assumed to be played by the Association. The improvement in the financial resources can become smooth and effective only with the help of more effective and functionally active Parents Teacher Association.
