Abstract
The contributions that History can make to Sociology, as sciences, have been much debated. The establishment and institutionalisation of scientific disciplines was, and is, a social process characterised by ambivalence and indeterminacy in the (re)formulation of their identity. This paper seeks to contribute to the analysis of this connection, which may potentially foster the heuristic capacity of both Sociology and History. To this end, various scientific, professional, social and political dimensions are explored based on the existing literature. The analysis allows concluding that there is a potentially positive impact on the understanding of social phenomena.
Keywords: Sociology, History, interchange, social phenomenon, heuristic capacity.
