Abstract

In the metacognitive approach, the psychic processes appear organized on hierarchical levels: a first level works to achieve the knowledge objectives; the second level, superordinate, supervises and informs about the first level, to control and modify it. Such an explanatory paradigm emphasizes the role of the environment in determining the cognitive structure of the individual. Obviously, heredity plays an important role and we can consider the following relation: a very unfavorable genotype can cancel out the favorable effects of the environment and vice versa, a very unfavorable environment can cancel the strongest genetic potentials.

The attachment to the cognitive system of a material structure does not mean that it is a strict disorder: an information processing is always executed by a physical system, but not by a physical system, namely, infallibly determined. and the information should be stored in completely different physical systems.

Not every physical system is a cognitive system, but those systems with which a calculus is represented by a calculus. Representation is a reflection in an internal environment of the external reality. and the internal environment in which it is represented. Without an internal reflection to the external environment, a system is not oriented in a rational way, it does not prove intelligence. He would be at the mercy of the physical laws that govern the environment.

The representations used by the human cognitive system must be symbolic (images, semantic contents, etc.) or sub-symbolic (activating patterns of neural networks). based on rules. Because the representations are symbolic, then we had to deal with the rules of handling the symbols. Since the representations are sub-symbolic or neuromimetic, we have to deal with the rules of modification to the activation values.  Consequently, the way of considering the individual cognitive structure that can be modified opens up, determining a higher and therefore more efficient organization, through a voluntary and directed intervention on those functions and psychic processes with metacognitive control role.

The purpose of this study is to show that the main differences in cognitive functioning between individuals are at one of the following levels: the volume and the way of organizing the knowledge; the power of resolution strategies; metacognition; depth of information processing; transfer capacity.

In conclusion, the identification of the concrete means capable of achieving this goal and the determination of their degree of efficiency, as well as the elaboration of new instruments, is an open problem, the solution of which can come from the most diverse fields.
